Ikkaku Ryu Juttejutsu
Ikkaku Ryu is approximately three hundred years old. The jutte is the quintessential Japanese police weapon--having come to be associated even in the modern Japanese mind with the Edo jidai police. Ikkaku Ryu was taught as an element of the curriculum of Shindo Muso Ryu among the ashigaru of the Kuroda clan. The art itself included many weapons and techniques other than just the jutte (forked truncheon) and the tessen (fan). Today emphasis is placed on the 24 core jutte kata. The Nihon Jodokai trains with metal jutte, wooden tessen and often with unsharpened iaito.
